Advanced Rating (P4)
The Torrey Pines Gliderport has created a unique training and certification process for the pilot working on attaining their advanced rating. Flight schools and the USHPA have not clearly defined expectations of advanced level pilots. Sure there are a few requirements, but most instructors suggest that you go out and get some experience. We agree, that experience is a great teacher. But what about some tools to help you safely obtain that experience? What are some other skills that you need to continue progressing?
Knowledge is empowering and the TPG team wants to help you get there. We have spent a lot of time defining a “skill and knowledge base” that should be part of your training. The skills and knowledge that we teach will not only allow you to continue your progression in a safe way, but also open your flying to a more diverse range of conditions.
Torrey Pines Gliderport offers 20+ clinics per year
The skills and training required for an advanced rating, should be achieved through attendance of advanced / specialized paragliding training. The TPG team offers over 20 clinics per year and many in-depth classroom sessions geared toward the advanced pilot.

- Advanced launching and landing (includes high wind, no wind, cross wind, slope landing, side-slipping, high altitude, etc.)

- Ultimate thermal and xc flying
- Flight planning
